Thanks to the collaborative work of the SCF doctors and genetic counselors, the CCXDP researchers and the participation of our XDP patients, recent genetic mapping studies have pinpointed the likely cause of XDP to a disease-specific retrotransposon insertion in the human TAF1 gene. Results have shown how this DNA insertion has a repeitive sequence, which can decrease TAF1 gene expression.
